Types of aortic va
Types of aortic valves
Unicuspid aortic valves are separated pathologically into two types: a commissural and unicommissural ,both a commissural and unicommissural unicuspid valves are generally stenotic . Unicuspid valves may be close completely during diastole as a result of leaflet redundancy or regurgitation .(118)
The bicuspid aortic valve
The bicuspid aortic valve is the most common congenital cardiac anomaly . Bicuspid valves have two primary orientations , one cuspid is positioned anteriorly and the second is positioned posteriorly .
Tricuspid aortic valve
Tricuspid aortic valves generally appear symmetric to the naked eye, variation in cusp size leads to asymmetric closure .
Quadcuspid aortic valve
The presence of four cusps is compatible with normal aortic valve function . Quadcuspid valves are rarely associated with other congenital cardiac anomalies , with the exception of truncus arteriosis .(119)
