Rooftop Photovoltaic potential and energy saving in cooling load due to shedding effect from PV panels on the buildings in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

The performance analysis of a rooftop PV system in terms of renewable energy production and its shading impact to reduce the cooling energy requirement of the building in hot areas like Saudi Arabia has interesting results. The techno-economic feasibility of rooftop PV system by incorporating the saving in cooling energy along with the actual generated electrical energy by the rooftop PV panels leads to reduction in levelized cost of energy. It is very important to include this shading advantage (cooling load curtailment) factor, especially in the hot and dry climate.
