Credit hours: 3(2+1)	Course Title: Diagnostic Molecular Biology
	Prerequisite: MDL-413 Z

Course Outline:

This course describes principles of modern techniques used in bio-molecular diagnosis with emphasis on biomedical molecular biology, gene mapping (genome), nucleic acid alteration (mutation) and genetic finger printing.

By the end of this course, student should be able to:

- Know basic biochemical and molecular biology.

- Perform major molecular diagnostic techniques such as nucleic acid extractions and purifications, blotting techniques, electrophoresis for molecular detection and mutation analysis, PCR for molecular detection techniques, fluorescence

in Situ

hybridization, DNA sequencing technique for forensic science, DNA variation (polymorphisms), gene expression analysis and medical cytogenetics.

- Apply of molecular diagnostic techniques in genetic diseases, human cancer, infectious diseases, cardiovascular diseases, identity based testing, genetic finger printing, genome and genetic engireening.

- Perform quality assurance in the molecular diagnostic laboratory

وصف محتويات المقرر:

يشمل هذا المقرر دراسة أسس ومبادئي التقنيات الحديثة المستخدمة في التشخيص الجزئي مع التركيز على علم الأحياء الجزئي والخريطة الوراثية وتغيرات الحمض النووي والبصمة الوراثية.

مع انتهاء هذا المقرر سيكون بمقدور الطالب أن:

- يعرف مبادئي علم الأحياء الحيوي الجزيئي

- يعمل الاختبارات الجزيئية التشخيصية مثل استخلاص وتنقية الحمض النووي, تحليل ورسم البروتينات, الترحيل الكهربائي, الكشف عن الطفرات الجينية, التفاعل التسلسلي المبلمر, تقنية الفلورسنسيه الهجينة, تقنية تعاقب الأحماض النووية في الطب الشرعي, تغيرات الأحماض النووية, تعبيرات الجين, والوراثة الطبية.

- يطبق تقنيات التشخيص الجزيئي في الأمراض الوراثية, السرطان, الأمراض المعدية, أمرض القلب والدورة الدموية, تحديد الشخصية من البصمة الوراثية, الهندسة الوراثية والخريطة الجينية.

- إجراء مراقبة الجودة النوعية في مختبرات الأحياء الجزيئية التشخيصية.
