ELCOROCK
ELCOROCK® Shoreline Protection System
The containers are based on ELCOMAX®, a specifically manufactured nonwoven, needle punched, staple fibre geotextile to enhance filtration, puncture, abrasion and U.V. resistance. This provides for maximum durability in harsh environments. The sewn seams are uniquely configured to maximise the mechanical characteristics of the geotextile and provide long term durability in a wide range of environments.
The ELCOROCK® geotextile sand container product range covers a large range of sizes and
systems ranging from hand filled 40kg containers to hydraulically filled 400t
mega sand containers and tubes.
ELCOMAX® nonwoven needle punched geotextile and the ELCOROCK® containers are manufactured to the highest international standards at our plant on the Gold Coast which is ISO9001:2000 accredited. As a result you can rely on the quality and consistency of all ELCOMAX® and ELCOROCK® products.
Geofabrics Australasia is the only geotextile manufacturer inAustralia, with plants in Albury and the Gold Coast. AsAustralia’s geotextile supplier of choice we pride ourselves in providing the best service to customers throughout the country.
Typical ELCOROCK® Applications
Sea Walls
ELCOROCK® geotextile containers are specifically designed for use in the marine environment. The durability, permeability, stability and flexibility of the containers provide an excellent solution for constructing sea walls. Using ELCOROCK® geotextile containers has several advantages over traditional sea wall methods including; using site won materials to fill the containers, reduces imported materials requirements, reduced beach contamination from loose rock structures, and provides a soft solution improving the amenity of the site. In seawall applications the ELCOROCK® geotextile containers are used in conjunction with ELCOROCK® needle punched geotextiles to provide a durable and permeable structure that can resist natural coastal processes.
Groynes and Breakwaters
The robustness and stability of the ELCOROCK® containers also provide solutions for other marine structures such as groynes, breakwaters and artificial reefs. The containers and tubes constructed with the ELCOMAX® needle punched geotextile are durable enough to not only be used in the foreshore environment, but also in the marine environment. The size, shape and material properties of the containers allow the construction of such structures even under the harshest conditions to provide such functions as foreshore protection, restricting salient movement to improving wave conditions. The range of container sizes and materials available provides the right solution for a variety of uses and environments.
River Bank Protection
In a similar fashion to marine applications the ELCOROCK® geotextile containers can be used in inland applications to provide similar
protection functions. The flexibility of the containers allow a range of fill
materials to be used whilst providing a cost effective, efficient solution. The
durability, UV stability, filtration and abrasion resistance properties of the
ELCOMAX® geotextile make the ELCOROCK® geotextile
containers ideal for use in the river environment.
Temporary Bunds
The construction methods used to create the ELCOROCK® structures can also be applied to temporary structures such as bunds or temporary emergency works. The container structure and materials provide both a rapid and cheap solution which can be easily removed once the structure has served its purpose, something not feasible with a traditional rock structure. The rapid deployment and varying construction methods also allows installations in difficult areas and conditions.
