Textiles - Approach for Wound Care by Nonwovens
ABSTRACT
Nonwovens are manufactured sheet, web or bat of direction ally or randomly oriented fibers bonded by friction, cohesion and adhesion. Nonwovens find numerous applications ranging from baby diapers to industrial high performance textile such as materials for building, thermal and sound insulating materials, health care textiles and automotive industries. These are also used in cover stocks, agriculture, aerospace and home furnishings. Nonwoven in medical end use contains silver, antiseptic and other antibiotic for the inhibition of resistant bacteria and other micro-organism.
INTRODUCTION
Nonwoven is widely used as health care and hygiene product. Nowadays gown, cap, mask, drape, cover stock protective clothing and wipes are made of nonwoven including antibacterial disposable wipes and clothing for surgery. Numerous types of fibers are involved in the production of nonwoven for medical purposes; these fibers are cotton, polyester, viscose, polyethylene and polypropylene [1].
Several antibacterial treatments are given to make textile resistant of microbial bio-burden. Antibacterial are either fixed or leachable. The fixed are durable treatment where as leachable product may diffuse antibacterial component while application. The antimicrobial agent can be applied to the textile substrate by exhaust, pad-dry-cure, coating, spray and foam technique.
