Aortic regurgitati
Aortic regurgitation
Aortic regurgitation is often well tolerated and may be present for many years . Aortic regurgitation is caused by prolapsed of an aortic leaflet due to its proximity to an underlying ventricular septal defect (79).
Aortic regurgitation is usually more tolerated than aortic stenosis but will progressively lead to left ventricular failure .(122) In aortic regurgitation an incompetent aortic valve allows blood to pass in the wrong direction during systole .
Coarctation of the aortic
There is evidence that repair of coarctation of the aortic after the age of 12 years , is associated with a higher risk of sudden cardiac death and cerebrovascular accident if the condition is treated in infancy .(79)
Replacement of the aortic valve
The choice of valve substitutes for aortic valve replacements surgery is traditionally either mechanical or biological valves . (118)Aortic valve replacement is so much more successful and it is considered an effective treatment for aortic incompetence. The choice of prosthetic valve are still controversial . (79)
