Varicose veins Diseases
varicose veins are the most common cause of superficial thrombophlebitis and thrombosis. (72) Varicose veins are primarily the result of valvular incompetence occurring in the superficial system of veins, which returns about 10% of venous blood from the lower extremity to the heart. Varicose veins occur because of distention or weaking of the venous walls, which reduces the ability of the valves to close adequately. (74) varicose veins can be categorized as primary or secondary. Primary varicose veins originate in the superficial system and occur two to three times as frequently in women (75) Varicose veins usually can be treated with conservative measures , small symptomatic varicose veins can be treated with sclerotherapy and compression bandage .Surgical therapy usually involves extensive liquation and stripping of the greater and lesser saphenous veins and should be reserved for patients who are very symptomatic .(75)
