Woven geotextiles
Woven geotextiles
As their name implies, these geotextiles are manufactured using weaving techniques adapted from those used in weave clothing textiles (9)
Woven geotextiles have to perform various tasks, including reinforcement, filtration, separation and drainage. They are preferred for applications where high strength and high modulus in the principle directions are more important. Woven fabrics have an added advantage that engineers can specify equivalent opening size because openings are regular and visible and can be correlated with soil particle sizes to be retained , so woven geotextiles are mainly used in coastal works, water lays, embankments and in concrete forming. Common weave types for geotextiles are plain , basket , twill and satin weaves , but plain weaves is the most commonly used (4) . The elements used are either flat tapes, multifilaments, single monofilaments or a mixture of two types of them
