Xtreme Reading Guidelines (July 23, 2012)
Guidelines for Development, Modification, Research, & Use of
the
Xtreme Reading Supplemental Reading Program
The
Xtreme Reading Supplemental Reading Program (XR) is a reading program
that was developed and owned by the University of Kansas Center for Research
on Learning (KUCRL). The following statements represent a set of guidelines for
the future development, modification, research, and use of XR.
XR is seen as a promising supplemental reading program. However, the
current level of evidence that exists on XR does not warrant its broad scale
dissemination. The KUCRL is interested in the future development and eventual
validation of the program. In order to facilitate that process, the following
guidelines have been established:
1. The CRL is to be made aware of any efforts to further develop, modify,
conduct research on, or distribute the XR Program in whole or part.
This must be done well in advance of any new work being conducted.
In addition, the KUCRL research staff must have an opportunity to
provide input on any proposed changes to the program and any
proposed research studies. Permission to use or make changes in XR
is to be done only after permission is granted by the KUCRL. Don
Deshler will serve as the point of contact for these requests.
2. No copyrighted materials used within the program (that are owned by
other individuals or entities) are to be used without the written
permission from the original copyright holder. These permissions are to
be on file at the KUCRL.
3.
The following designation is to be placed on every page of the
curriculum: ©
The University of Kansas Center for Research on
Learning – Do not reproduce without written permission
.
4.
Any reproductions of the XR Program are to be overseen and directed
by the KUCRL. This will ensure that proper compensation is returned
to the KUCRL for use of the program and that quality reproductions are
made.
5.
The KUCRL is the sole distributor of XR. Permission must be granted
by the KUCRL before other organizations or individuals may distribute
the program.
6.
Any use of XR must have a KUCRL approved research plan so that
validation evidence may be obtained. The evidence must have an
experimental or quasi-experimental design. Rigorous single subject
designs are an acceptable quasi-experimental design.
