Flower Structure
A typical flower is borne over a stalk called pedicel, it has a leaf like structure at the base of a stalk known as bract. A flower has a knob like swelling at the tip of the pedicel known as thalamus. Thalamus is a modified stem as it possesses nodes and internodes to supply nutrients to the flower. A flower bears 4 whorls of floral parts on the thalamus. Of these, 2 are essential and 2 are non-essential whorls.
