1.      What is the main purpose for this course?

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1.      distinguish among different parts of an effective paragraph- the topic sentence, the main idea, supporting ideas, and extensions followed by the conclusion in their writing;

2.      generate ideas for topics of writing through making an excellent use of the three prewriting techniques: brainstorming, clustering, and freewriting;

3.      write English correctly using different forms and formats of written paragraphs- unity, coherence, and adequate development;

4.      develop the ability to figure out and correct the common errors in writing: fragments, run-on sentences, subject- verb agreement problems, shifts in verb tense and pronoun agreement problems;

5.      punctuate sentences appropriately using commas, full stops, semi-colons, and colons;

6.      avoid committing mechanical mistakes concerning capitalization, spelling, abbreviations;

7.      proofread their paragraphs before submitting them to their instructors;

8.      develop the skill to present good descriptive and narrative paragraphs with their variant types.

9.      develop the ability to appreciate good paragraphs and try to project the same aesthetic values in their writing.
